Default Solveing two problems at once: skill points and fame

Playing a bit with my characters, when I once got enough experience to get another skill point, I realized they were useless for me after I had gotten all the skills. Right now I have around 20-30 each across 4 characters, all of them going to waste after I have bought my skills.
I am proposing that these extra skill points be able to trade for Fame, say 1 skill point = 1 fame. (I think this number would be balanced, but is open for debate)

Benifits:
No longer is experience nearly useless after lvls 20 and over.
People who aren't new to the game and have at least one character that has beaten the PvE can hopefully get enough fame to get at least a rank 3 emote.
I have found that this (at least) is required to be able to get any decent team in the tournament. This will help distinguish them from the new players who are playing their first character and are pvping for the first time from those who actually have a clue. It would also make perfect sense, because after you're legendary battles and feats in defeating the titans (well... ok maybe not that specail, but bare with me), that you would be famous to the people of the world.

Drawbacks:
I can see some people easily farming this if some restrictions arent put in. You could probably get 2-3 levels and do the skill point quest in pre searing and thereby get fame faster then with PUGs in the actual tournament. So what I propose is one of two things:
A.Only skill points earned after x levels are able to be transfered to fame.
B.Place the 'Fame trader' in a place far into the game, say droknar's forge. Make it so only the character who earned the skill points can trade them in, forceing them to get to droknar's first.

Reasons why people are probably going to say no:

You're asking that skill points, easily obtained by pretty much everyone, especially solo farmers, be used to trade in for Fame. Fame being a way to determine skill (up for debate...) in PvP. You're basically asking that something incredibly easy to earn in PvE be traded in for something that can actually be quite difficult to earn in PvP.

Go to the screenshot forum, check out the Experience Milestones thread, and I think you'll understand where I'm going with this. I can't imagine any real PvPer being happy that a bunch of farmers just shot up to Rank 3-4 because they saved skill points.

Oh, and I wish people would state their opinions better than "NO" when responding in the suggestion forum. Give reasons, explain why you think that, explain why other people might find problems with it. This is a discussion forum. Maybe I should make a rule that if your post isn't more than no, yes, signed or unsigned, or doesn't include some reasoning behind your opinion than I should just delete it.

I can see why he would want something like this. Yes it is hard to get groups in Heroes Ascent, but explain to him why this may not be the best idea and help expand and come up with something better.

First of all Thank you vilaptca for actually saying something usefull.

I can see why many people would dislike this. Most who frequent this board are probably vets, and this is mainly aimed at helping newer players.
Yes, many people would get up to rank 3-4 just because they have played a lot of PvE. But that is the point, the rank is there to show that you aren't a complete noob, and playing through the whole story and gaining those skill points proves that (debatable, but so is fame itself after all of the IWAY teams that run around). The reason I made this suggestion was that there needed to be a way to distinguish people who are experienced and want to try to win in the tournament vs. people who are playing for their first time and are only able to use the pre built characters. 95% of the groups that someone without rank can join will not get far at all, simply because there is no way to see the ability of the players beforehand. I came up with the skill points = fame idea because as far as I can see, skill points are useless after around lvl 20 + 10 skills. I wanted to utilize them as a way to equalize the gametypes.

Because right now, we have PvP affecting a very large part of PvE (FoW and Underworld, among other much lesser parts) but the PvP world is completely independent of what happens in the PvE world. This was a way to help connect the two in a way that would benefit the players.

As always, the idea is open to suggestions.

(one sentence does not qualify as a suggestion)

O man, I have around 256 skill points I think I'll be closer to my rank 9. Sooner or later that is when I farm more.

A noob with rank 3-4, can farm the same area over and over and be experinced? HOH affects Fow and UW from you farmers who want your precious Fow armor, how about going to HA and winning the fame.

Just wait for factions, plenty of use for all those skillpoints there, I would assume.

Every farmer would be instantly rank 3. Imagine all the flashy "chineese bots" with their new rank 6(1000 fame) emotes... You could easily earn fame 3x faster than you could in an unranked PUG simply by farming, and you could make a profit from the farming as well(whereas you're not guarnteed to win in the Hall of Heroes).

Rank means HA experience, not necceciarly "skill" as it's possible to be very skilled and not have a rank emote or have a low rank emote(last of master is rank 3 for example). The same way as finishing say all the titan quests may mean PvE experience, as you could do all of the ones after Defend Drocks from ToA and have 2-4 more people making the quests quite easy, the same way you could IWAY to rank 6, 9 and beyond if you simply spent your entire day playing IWAY.

Another thing, just because you may be good at PvE does not mean you are good at PvP, another reason why this idea shouldn't happen.

First off, PvE and PvP are already connected, if you were a PvP player you'd probably know that play to your maximum potential in PvP you really need at least some PvE items, if not a PvE charactar built for PvP, meaning countless hours of grind for you either way.

Anet has stated that FoW/UW were intended to be reward areas for succesful tournament play. It was intended that PvP have some impact on PvE, and probably that PvE has an imact on PvP. The reward for winning in the Hall of Heroes is cigils and gold items, which really aren't of much use to you if you're a purely PvP player, with no PvE be it built for PvP or not. As cigils are only useful for selling to the cigil trader, to other people, and for getting a guild hall, and the gold items you get are only really useful in PvP if you can customize the weapons or sell them... Which you really can't do on a PvP charactar. Either way you can see how the two are already intertwined.

Rank is used to determine the number of wins you have in HA, nothing else. Gaining fame from any other source is extremely stupid.

All of you make valid points, some of which I haven't thought of before. So I pose this question: Can anyone think of another way to solve these problems?

There is no real problem. Skill Points have use in upcoming expansions & arguing about fame is made by those who are frustrated when they learn PvP is little bit more demanding than they maybe thought.

Hmmm. Although I do like the Idea of Getting fame from sources other than IWAY or already having R3+ to get into any other group, I think that PvE experience is not the answer. Due to the fact that there are alot of PvE players that have skill yet are not familiar with the play style and objectives in PvP battles. Now on that note PvP Faction may be a source to be concidered for Fame. My account is currently Frozen at 300,000 faction due to the fact that I have unlocked every skill and Item. Yet I still continue to GVG for at least 3 hrs daily. I dable in HA,RA,and TA yet I find the whole R3+ situation quite annoying at times.

Possible solution to make everyone happy is having Fame come from all PvP sources through either Faction milestones or HA wins, although leaving it the way it is would still be fine with me (due to the fact that Fame really means nothing to me other than a seperate category of farming; Gold/Fame)

As for your issue with unspent skill pointsafter lvl 20, try switching your secondary profession and unlocking all the skills for each profession on each character. That should keep your unspent skill points at a minimum for a while

Idea signed
but maybe a different approach

so are you saying that my friend, who is a 55 monk with over 150 skill points, should be able to trade it for fame?...

maybe if they raised the faction cap to say 50k and made it so you could buy 1 fame for every 50k faction you have.

fame is there for pvp m8. You cant have PvE players who dont know the difference between a r spike and a n spike spamming emotes. No Way.

well I think 50k faction is a far cry from 1 win in HA! A win in HA is not hard to come buy at all. Definately not as much work as it is to earn 50k faction.

Dumb idea - skill points in PvE shows one thing. That you're good at inanely grinding out PvE monsters and quests. Not that you have the remotest clue about how to play PvP - we'll see all the stance tanks in randoms now with a deer thinking they are great because they can stay alive longest.

This wouldn't solve the problem of "R3 or bugger off", since people with the knowledge wouldn't necessarily have spent a lot of time grinding crap.

I dont see how skill points relate to pvp...unless you could only trade in skill points off of a pvp character.

Ever way to earn fame who is not linked to HA is dump.

why?

Fame show your experience in HA(someone might have something to do , but that is supposed be the function of fame).

if people can get rank 3 (or 6 or 9) via other way who is not HA will just make the rank useless : becouse people who make team will know that rank can be obtained in other way so they will change way to check player ability.
